Coffee Ride to Humbled Coffeehouse - Stamford, CT

The Ride

With the recent snow finally cleared from the roads and no ice, it was time to take the BMW GSA out for a coffee ride.  From the Cross River, NY departure point, the Beeline compass indicated just 13.9 miles to the Humbled Coffeehouse across the border in Stamford, CT.

Leaving Cross River, I headed west on Route 35 and then turned right onto Route 124, heading south following the compass indicator.  I split off in Pound Ridge, NY, and traveled on Route 137 toward Stamford, CT.  As I arrived in Stamford,  the Beeline indicated a sharp left.  I found a street heading that way, but it was a bunch of dead-end residential streets, so I had to backtrack.  I got back onto Route 137 and ran further south until a more major street allowed me to head east and finally turn back north on Hope Street as the Beeline compass urged me.  See our article on discovering new roads with Beeline.

After arriving in the parking lot, Rever reported a recorded distance of 20.5 miles.  See the route below.

The Coffee Shop

Stamford is the 2nd largest city in Connecticut, having surpassed Hartford & New Haven’s population in 2020.  In Fairfield County, Stamford is part of the greater New York City commuter region.  Many residents travel to NYC for work, although Stamford has become a destination for work with eight Fortune 500 companies and other businesses.  The movement of firms to Stamford started in the 1960s and 1970s.  Stamford is home to businesses ranging from cable companies and financial services to audio equipment and beverages.  Not to mention, the WWE is headquartered in Stamford.

Despite wrestling with so many large businesses, much of Stamford is residential, including where Humbled Coffeehouse is located.  A small parking lot in front is shared with another shop.  The spots out front were taken, but a place just to the side of the building was available.

Good alt-rock music plays on the speakers, and there is a couch seating area on the right as you enter. A large square coffee table is spread among several chairs and couches on each side. On the left, several tables with metal cafe chairs were available, but they were all taken. Only one small chair near the coffee table was available.

In the back corner was the counter space in an L shape around the coffee-making area.  On the back wall was a weathered wood cabinet.

The walls had a series of black-and-white posters, mostly with text on them. One photo showed a person with painted text superimposed over them, exclaiming, “It was all a dream.” Another suggested, “Come as you are,” which paired well with the picture of Kurt Cobain framed by his fingers in a v-shape outstretched in front of him.

The coffee menu included espresso, americano, cappuccino flat white, latte, Cortana, macchiato, drip coffee, and cold brew. Additionally, matcha, chai spiced vanilla, dirty hot cocoa, and plain tea were available. Almond, oat, and coconut milk were also available, along with flavors to add.

The Refreshments

I ordered an Americano and a blueberry muffin.  My coffee was served in a paper cup with a cover as they do much takeout business.  A quick look at other patrons’ beverages showed they were also served in paper cups.

The blueberry muffin was soft, moist, and flavorful—an excellent example and perhaps enough of a reason to visit Humbled Coffeehouse on its own. My Americano was quite hot, so I took off the cap to let it cool for a bit. After it cooled, I enjoyed a smooth Americano with hints of chocolate.

The space has enough sights to occupy your mind, and the refreshments are well worth the trip to the Humbled Coffeehouse.
